Man shot dead at former SOE check-point in Westmoreland
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A man was gunned down while riding his motorcycle at a former State of Emergency (SOE) checkpoint, at Belle Isle road in Grange Hill Westmoreland, on Friday afternoon.
The man is known only by the alias “G-5”.
Reports are that residents heard loud explosions, and shortly after the man was discovered on the ground beside his motorcycle with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
One resident, who did not want to be identified, told OBSERVER ONLINE that the community needs the SOE.
“Whole heap a people a guh dead, if dem nuh come back,” the resident lamented.
He said there was a semblance of order when the soldiers were at the checkpoint.
“It did calm enuh, before dem come a pure gunshot yuh hear night time, from dem gone seet deh man dead right deh suh,” the seemingly concerned resident said.
He added that had the SOE been active, a murder would not have taken place at the location.
“If it did deh deh, a man wouldn’t dead deh suh. Now that dem gone,di place stir up again,” he said.
The SOEs expired on Tuesday at midnight.
