Mt Pleasant held by Waterhouse in JPL
ST ANN, Jamaica – Defending champions Mt Pleasant FA had their perfect start to the Jamaica Premier League ended after they were held to a goalless draw by Waterhouse FC in their game played at Drax Hall on Sunday.
Mt Pleasant who had won their first six games are still leading the points tables with 19 points, eight more than second-placed Arnett Gardens who have played a game less while Portmore United who led twice before losing 3-2 to Montego Bay United are in third place, also with 11 points but from seven games.
In the first game played at Drax Hall, cellar dwellers Lime Hall Academy and Molynes also played out a 0-0 draw.
After a drab first half at Wespow Park, the teams exploded for five goals in the second half as Montego Bay United came from behind twice to win 3-2 with Deonjay Brown scoring a double and Denri Williams scoring the winner in time added, both scoring for the first time in the Premier League.
Emilio Rousseau gave Portmore United the lead in the 55th minute when he capitalised on an error by goal keeper William Ferreira who left his line but was beaten to the ball by a Portmore player who crossed it into the centre and the midfielder powered the ball into the wide open goal.
MBU drew level in the 67th minute when Portmore United’s goal-keeper Tyrone Williams could only parry a powerful free kick from Jean Claudio Ferreira into the path of Brown who headed it back past the custodian from about three yards out.
Less than a minute after MBU missed taking the lead and two minutes after giving up a goal, Walsh took full advantage of another mistake by MBU to restore his team’s lead, as he latched on to an attempted back header from Odane Nish and smashed it past the goalkeeper.
Brown was well placed in the 90th minute to score his second goal of the game, heading past Williams to tie up the scores and Williams completed the comeback four minutes into time added and virtually the final kick of the game when he beat the Portmore goalkeeper from inside the 18-yard box.
