1. Man, woman arrested in ‘illegal’ cigarette bust

The police have confirmed that a man and woman have been taken into custody in relation to the seizure of a quantity of assorted illegal cigarettes in the York Town area of Clarendon today.

2. JTA says ministry soliciting info on ‘sick’ teachers

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information is soliciting information from schools as it relates to the absence of teachers during March 12-14, when a sick-out was staged in protest against the Government’s wage offer.

3. Utility companies pay $129m for breaches last year — OUR

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) has disclosed that the island’s public utility companies paid out more than $129 million to customers for service breaches last year.

4. Holness wants UK to compensate Windrush generation

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has called on the United Kingdom to ensure “fair and just” compensation to people of the so-called Windrush generation and their children, who have been harassed over their legal status in that country.

5. Oil, gas exploration 3D seismic survey 45% complete

Tullow Oil is reporting steady progress on its oil exploration 3D seismic survey with just over 45 per cent of the data capture already completed.

6. Charles Jr discusses denuclearisation with S Korea chargé

State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Pearnel Charles Jr on Tuesday met with Chargé d’ Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Young Gyu Lee where they discussed, among other things, denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

7. Gayle’s sixth IPL hundred deals Sunrisers first defeat

Superstar Chris Gayle dispelled any lingering notions his powers were on the wane by lashing an imperious hundred, to fire Kings XI Punjab to a 15-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad here Thursday.

8. Arnett Gardens FC boss Patrick Roberts resigns

Patrick Roberts has resigned as president of the Arnett Gardens Football Club, effective May 9, 2018.

9. JN-Racers Grand Prix set for June 9

Several high-class duels are expected to again highlight the third staging of the JN-Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium in Kingston come June 9.

10. Castro to remain head of Cuba’s Communist Party until 2021

Cuba’s Raul Castro – who on Thursday stepped down, ceding the presidency to Miguel Diaz-Canel in a historic handover – said he would remain head of the island’s all-powerful Communist Party until 2021.
