Producer Melio Sounds happy to be part of Nicki Minaj’s #1 album
Being a part of a number one album in America was never on the cards for producer Melio Sounds.
On Sunday when Billboard magazine revealed that Pink Friday 2 by Nicki Minaj had topped the all-genre Billboard 200 Albums chart, Melio Sounds was ecstatic.
“It’s a great feeling to be involved with this project, it’s been a wild 10 years on my musical journey, but as the saying goes, ‘time is the master’ never you question the Lord’s perfect timing,” Melio Sounds disclosed in an interview with Observer Online on Sunday afternoon.
He continued, “To be a part of an unprecedented body of work that is now number one, is something huge.”
The Seaview Gardens raised Melio Sounds, along with German producer Bas Beats, are credited as producers on ‘Forward from Trini’, track number 14 from Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 album.
Pink Friday 2 was released to much fanfare on social media on December 8 via Young Money/Republic Records. Additional tracks were added to the release and up to December 14, there were a total of 24.
Among the other collaborators on Pink Friday 2 are rappers Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Future and Drake and gospel artiste Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Tate Kobang and Lourdiz.
Pink Friday 2 debuted with 228,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate. That sum, according to Billboard, marks the largest week for a rap album by a female in the 2020s decade and the biggest for an R&B/hip-hop album by a woman this year.
This is the third number one album on the Billboard 200 for Minaj.
Pink Friday 2 also opens at number one on the Rap Albums and R&B/Hip-Hop Album charts.
Outside of the United States, Pink Friday 2 is also charting well. It has top 10 positions in the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Australia and on the Dutch Albums chart.
Just the ‘Memories’, a track featured on Pink Friday 2, samples Beenie Man’s 1995 hit ‘Stop Live Inna De Pass (Memories)’, while Jamaican born producer Matthew ‘Boi-1da’ Samuels is credited on the tracks ‘Needle’ featuring Drake and ‘Pink Birthday’.
