Reggae artiste Danlyonn appeals to gov’t to help youth in freestyle ‘Politics’
KINGSTON, Jamaica -In this time of wish-making, up-and-coming reggae artiste Danlyonn’s only desire is for the Jamaican government to do more in creating avenues for young people who have been affected by violence in the country.
The artiste, whose given name is Daniel Clarke, released an almost two-minute long freestyle titled ‘Politics’ in which he pleads to the leaders of the country to implement ways to prevent the youth from turning to a life of crime.
“This freestyle I did recently is more like a plea to the government to implement various ways to help young people who have been trapped and lost in the depths of violence and juvenile delinquent activities. I believe the government can develop more institutions, such as boot camp classes in an educational environment for young people to share their stories and get the help that they need and give them opportunities in terms of pursuing a career that match their skill sets,” the artiste argued.
He added that he acknowledges the efforts made by the government but believes, based on what he has witnessed around him, there is more that can be done.
The freestyle, which was recorded at Tuff Gong International Studio, was released a week ago, and has been receiving positive reactions from followers on the artiste’s Instagram page and YouTube channel. Followers have commended the artiste on his timely message, pointing to the increased level of criminal activity in the country.
“Because of what I am seeing going on, not only in Jamaica but all over the world, most of the young people are lost and it affects even me because we are the young generation and we are living in the last days,” the 22-year-old artiste said.
“In this time I believe that we should be the ones to bring this positive change and eradicate the negatives that are going on. Because when you look at the news you mostly see young people dying because of violence, suicide and depression and all those stuff,” he added.
Danlyonn is also appealing to the younger generation in his freestyle, calling on them to start thinking of ways to bring about positive change and act on them.
“It is time for us as young people to start think and strategise on ways of how to bring change. In the Bible it speaks about revelation times and we are living in that time now so we must take that more serious, draw closer to God and put in the action and do what He wants us to do. We should start that now before it gets more serious,” Danlyonn warned.
He told Observer Online that he hopes the government will hear his freestyle and create a forum to hear the views of the youth, and start a conversation on how they can help.
