Shop breaker charged after being mobbed by residents
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – A Westmoreland man has been charged with shop breaking and larceny after he was caught stealing from a shop in Llandilo Phase 4 in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland on Monday, May 09.
Charged is 48-year-old Barrington Wallaston, otherwise called ‘Steve’, of Llandilo district.
Reports are that about 1:13 am, the shop’s owner was awoken by strange sounds and made checks using her surveillance camera.
Wallaston was seen inside her shop stealing cigarettes. The woman raised an alarm. Community members responded and Wallaston was reportedly mobbed and chopped several times. The police were summoned and he was taken to hospital where he was admitted under police guard.
He was subsequently charged and is awaiting his day in court.
