Tanto Metro and Devonte upbeat as Tory Lanez goes gold with ‘Luv’

Dancehall duo Tanto Metro and Devonte are upbeat as ‘Luv’, a 2016 hit single by Canadian singer and rapper Tory Lanez has been certified gold in France.

The certification was issued by the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (SNEP) on December 22.

‘Luv’ features a sample from the duo’s 1998 hit single ‘Everyone Falls in Love’, which was produced by Donovan Germain.

“I feel good to know that after all these years, the song got revamped by a younger person. To hear that the song has been certified gold, I feel overwhelmed by this achievement. I am happy for him,” said Tanto Metro.

He said the use of the sample was cleared by his publisher.

“The publishing company did their part, everything was cleared for use of the sample,” said Tanto Metro.

‘Everyone Falls in Love’ was a hit locally and it also charted on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

‘Luv’ is featured on Tory Lanez’s 2016 debut album I Told Ya. The song was nominated for Best R&B Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2017. An official remix of the song features Sean Paul.

The song was a hit in Europe and the United States, charting at number four on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, number 19 on the Hot 100, while making charts in Slovakia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium and Portugal.

‘Luv’ was previously certified gold in Denmark and Norway, platinum in the United Kingdom and Canada and 2x platinum in the United States.
