Thomas-Dodd wins indoor shot put event
Jamaica’s World Championships medalist Danniel Thomas-Dodd got her indoor season off to a great start on Friday, winning the women’s shot put event at the Puma American Track League Hawkeye Pro Classic at the Hawkeye Indoor track in Iowa City, Iowa.
With a throw of 19.12m on her first attempt, Thomas-Dodd equaled her second best indoor throw of all time, matching her sixth placed throw in last year’s World Athletics’ Indoor Championships in Serbia.
American Rachel Fatherly was second with a season’s best 17.08m coming on her final attempt, with Katie Fare, also of the US, third with 16.25m.
On Saturday, four more Jamaicans will compete, Schillonie Calvert-Powell in the women’s 60m, Damion Thomas in the men’s 60m hurdles and Sean Bailey and Karayme Bartley in the men’s 300m.
