Thompson Herah second in 200m at Florida meet
Jamaica’s two-time sprint double Olympic Games champion, Elaine Thompson Herah finished second in her first 200m of the season at the Tom Jones Invitation Meet in Gainsville, Florida on Friday.
Thompson Herah clocked 23.23 in the heat to finish behind Melissa Jefferson of the USA, who won in 23.02. Her compatriot Junelle Bromfield was sixth in 23.72.
Meanwhile, St Lucia’s Julien Alfred, bringing her immaculate indoor form to the outdoor circuit, ran a national record and world-leading 21.91 to win her 200m heat for college women. Her Texas Longhorn teammate, Jamaica’s Kevona Davis finished third in 22.47, behind MacKenzie Long of Ole Miss who was second in 22.31.
Alfred won the NCAA Indoor Nationals last month in a NCAA record 22.01.
The two-day meet continues on Saturday.
