KINGSTON, Jamaica – The US National Hurricane Center has reported that a Tropical Storm watch for Jamaica could soon be discontinued as the system continues to move west and is expected to leave the waters south of the island.
A Tropical Storm watch was in effect for Jamaica as the system is expected to pass south of the island today. This meant that tropical storm conditions could have started affecting the island within the next two days.

But, according to the latest bulletin from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service), at 4:00pm, the centre of Tropical Storm Lisa was located near latitude 15.5 degrees North, longitude 78.4 degrees West, or about 310 kilometres (195 miles) south of Negril Point, Jamaica.
On the forecast track, the centre will begin to move away from Jamaica this evening, pass south of the Cayman Islands tomorrow and then move near the Bay Islands of Honduras early on Wednesday.
The system will continue to induce bands of rainfall over sections of Jamaica for the next couple of days and residents should remain on alert for possible flash flooding in flood-prone areas, according to the Met Service bulletin.
Fishers should exercise caution until all warning messages have been lifted and wind and sea conditions have returned to normal.
The Met Service continues to monitor the system’s progress.
