Voltz Of Holt Vol 2 set for early 2024 release
Voltz Of Holt Vol 2, a collection of songs by reggae legend John Holt’s sons and grandson, is expected to be released in early 2024. It is a follow-up to a compilation album that came out two years ago.
Junior Holt, one of Holt’s two sons featured on the upcoming set, disclosed that the project will have mainly original songs by him, his brother Brian and son Bamm Holt.
“Most songs on this album will be original with a few foreign cover versions and one or two of father John Holt songs,” he said.
The songs were recorded at Voltage Unlimited, Junior and Bamm’s studio in Connecticut.
Really Blow my Mind, a collaboration with Junior and Bamm, is the lead single from Voltz Of Holt Vol 2, while Brian covers Baby I’m A Want You, originally done by American blue-eyed soul group Bread. John Holt covered that song for his acclaimed 1973 album, 1000 Volts of Holt.
Considered one of the most influential vocalists in the annals of reggae, John Holt died in 2014 at age 67. Junior and Bamm Holt have covered a number of his songs to help preserve his vast legacy as a solo artiste and member of The Paragons, a harmony trio that recorded during the mid-1960s, mainly for producer Duke Reid at Treasure Isle Records.
Released in July 2021, Voltz of Holt includes covers of some of his biggest hit songs, such as Carpenter, Hooligan and Bojangles.
