WATCH: ‘Gi wi more time’ – Motorists calling for extended period to pay outstanding traffic fines
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Motorists are calling on the Government to give additional time to pay outstanding traffic tickets as the new Road Traffic and Regulations Act is set to take effect on Wednesday, February 1.
“People, what every motorist in Jamaica want right now, every motorist in Jamaica right now want more time. Suh guess wah Mista Holness, gi wi more time, gi wi more time fi pay di tick dem cause it’s such a big fine. Gi wi more time, gi wi more time, government a gwaan like it’s such a big crime…”, said a motorist.
On Friday, hundreds of motorists converged at the Kingston and St Andrew Traffic court to secure a court date, in hopes of settling their outstanding fines.

This, after Minister of Transport and and Mining, Audley Shaw, on Thursday urged motorists to take advantage of the period of reprieve being provided by the Government to pay outstanding tickets.

In addition, Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck, had suggested that motorists get a loan to repay their fines. He reported that over 2,000 people had over 100 unpaid tickets, and another 45 had over 500 outstanding traffic fines at the time.
