WATCH: Three dead, four injured in late night attack in Rockfort
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three people are dead and another four are nursing gunshot wounds following a shooting incident at a bar on Rusden Road in Rockfort, Kingston on Thursday night.
According to the police, the shooting is as a result of an ongoing gang feud between warring factions in the area.
Phillip Kendrick Smith, deputy superintendent of police in charge of operations at the Kingston Eastern division, said one of the deceased, identified as Warren Benjamin, was allegedly involved in the 2022 shooting of a man known as ‘Luxury’.
Police say the incident has left the area tense and have indicated that all entertainment events to be hosted in the area must be approved by the Kingston Eastern division. Officers went further to state that they cannot guarantee the safety of patrons who attend events that are hosted without proper approval from law enforcers.
“The possibility of persons being armed based on what is happening is really high,” said DSP Smith. “We just want to ask persons to ensure that they comply with the law so that we can be better able and equipped to assist them in whatever activities they intend to carry out.”
In the meantime, DSP Smith said police presence has been heightened in the troubled area and says a 48-hour curfew is pending. The police say they also intend to carry out several operations in the area as they have a list of persons of interest that they will be seeking out.
“There is a Prince who is the cousin of Warren Benjamin (one of the deceased from last night’s attack), there is Bumbye, there is a Stickman, there is a Goose and we would just like to speak to these persons to try and return the area to some level of normalcy,” said DSP Smith.
