Whitmore era at Mt Pleasant starts with a win
ST ANN, Jamaica – The Theodore Whitmore era as coach of Mount Pleasant got underway on Sunday with a hard-fought come from behind 2-1 win over a gutsy promoted Faulkand FC team at Drax Hall.
Goals from Trivante Stewart and Leonardo Jibbison in the final 23 minutes saved Mt Pleasant some blushes after Husanna Johnson gave Faulkland FC a shock lead in the 22nd minute.
The dismissal of Faulkland FC’s defender Jowell Powell, after he was shown a second yellow card in the 72nd minute, and an injury to the other central defender, captain Michael McLeod, shifted the balance decisively to Mt Pleasant and they took advantage.
Mt Pleasant dominated the early proceedings but poor finishing, especially by Stewart, allowed Faulkland FC to stay in the game and they took the lead after a swift counter attack that saw Johnson volley home past goalkeeper Tafari Chambers to send the travelling fans into rapture.
The promoted team held on to their lead but after Powell was sent off Mt Pleasant seized the advantage and Stewart looped a header into the top right hand corner of the goal to level the scores.
They took the lead in the 85th minute after Faulkland FC failed to get the ball away and Jibbison poked it home from close range to complete the Mt Pleasant come-back.
