Homer Davis asks for patience

Homer Davis asks for patience

ANCHOVY, St James – Member of Parliament for St James Southern Homer Davis has asked his constituents not to give up on him as all for the constituency cannot be achieved in three years.

“As your Member of Parliament, I know sometimes some of you get a little bit impatient and I am going to [ask] you not to be impatient with me. You know me, you know I always deliver, and you know my interests and love is for you the people of South St James,” stated Davis.

“So we are not going to accomplish everything in three years and two months, but I can assure you that I will deal with some of the long-standing issues that you have over 15, 20, 25 years. And I can tell you that I will not leave you until every community in South St James has running water in their house, and I can tell you that the process has started but it is not something that you can just flick a switch and it is there. Give me some time,” added Davis.

Davis, who is also the minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister (West) made the plea while addressing his St James Southern Constituency Conference held at the Anchovy High School in the parish on Sunday night.

Pointing to the Cambridge water supply system, which was constructed more than 40 years ago, Davis revealed that there is a major infrastructure development work to be carried out on the plant which suffers from turbidity.

“That will be solved because there is a $310-million allocation. It is part of a US$209-million project that the prime minister announced recently when he was at Harmony Beach Park town hall meeting,” stated Davis.

Davis noted that while the water supply originates in Cambridge, it serves communities such as Bethel Town in Westmoreland Eastern.

Similarly, major work is to be done on the Shettlewood water supply system in Hanover Eastern, which will supply sections of St James Southern.

“A major announcement is to be made [about] some $660 million that will be spent to bring water from Shettlewood to Montpelier, to Mount Carey, to Lawson, and Roehampton,” stated Davis, who made it clear that this was made possible by representation he made to the various agencies of government.

While Davis did not give a project start-up date, he said he recently received a letter which said the project is to start “very soon”.

Regarding health, Davis was particularly pleased about the Cambridge Health Centre, which was renovated recently.

“It is now one of the best health centres in the parish,” Davis added.

Davis said major repair work is being done on the Catadupa Health Centre, while a recent estimate was done on the Roehampton Health Centre.

St James Southern was held by the PNP between 1989 and 2020.
