Linguistic exchange programme
COLOMBIAN university students who spent six weeks in a linguistic exchange programme at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, recently pose for this photo on the steps of the UWI’s main library at the end of the programme.
The 16 Colombians were hosted by the Department of Modern Languages and Literature in the Faculty of Humanities and Education at Mona where they got an opportunity to improve their competence in English.
The programme, now in its third year, also exposed the students to Jamaican culture, as they were taken on tours of historical and cultural sites in Kingston, Spanish Town, Port Royal, Ocho Rios and Portland.
A group of Jamaican UWI students visited Uninotre, a university in Barranquilla, Colombia to study Spanish as part of the exchange, which was established through a bilateral agreement between the governments of Jamaica and Colombia.
