Three die in gunfight with police in St Elizabeth

THREE alleged members of the Speculation Gang were killed and two firearms seized during a shoot-out with police on Tuesday near the St Elizabeth capital Black River.

Up to press time Tuesday evening the identities of the men had not been released by police.

A highly placed source told the Jamaica Observer that sometime between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm police were on an operation in the Speculation community, near Brompton, when the men allegedly opened fire on officers.

The source said a shoot-out ensued between the men and the police. After the shooting the three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at hospital.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has since launched a probe into the incident.

For months the police have accused members of the Speculation Gang of committing murders and robberies across St Elizabeth.
