With Shaw Wayne set to demit office as the president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) in a few days’ time, Mark Bennett has emerged as the front-runner to take the reins.

Shaw, who has been the president of KSAFA since January 2017, announced last Tuesday that he will be stepping down from the position.

A special general meeting of KSAFA will be held at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) offices on Saturday to elect a new president of the organisation.

Bennett, who has been the second vice-president of the organisation since 2017, told Jamaica Observer that he has been approached by persons within the organisation to take up the post, but he is yet to decide.

“I am serving on the executive and if they call upon me and there are no other challengers, then I would consider it,” said Bennett.

“I have been asked in the past and I have turned it down, but now I am considering it, but I have not made up my mind as yet,” Bennett added.

Bennett, who is a former president of Brown’s Town FC, said KSAFA is the biggest and most difficult confederation to govern in Jamaica, therefore, whoever becomes the next president is going to have to be a very strong-minded individual that can lead without fear.

“I am honoured to be linked with this post because KSAFA is the leading football confederation in the country and we have had many fine leaders over the years who would have done well in their personal and professional lives and would have led the KSAFA federation well in the past,” he said.

“This is the toughest confederation in the country because the leaders in the KSAFA are advocates of the game,” Bennett went on.
