Chapelton Maroons book tier-two semi-final spot
Chapleton Maroons joined leaders Faulkland FC as the qualifiers for the semi-finals of the Jamaica Football Federation National Tier Two competition after hammering Downs YC 5-0 in their 10th-round game at Turner’s Playfield on Wednesday.
Kaheim Dixon scored a hat-trick to lead Chapleton Maroons to the win which pulled them alongside Faulkland FC on 23 points. The St James-based team lost its first game of the season, a 0-3 spanking at home by Treasure Beach FC.
Treasure Beach and Falmouth United, who edged Baptist Alliance 1-0 in St Thomas, are on 19 points each and along with Tru Juice FC will be in a race in Sunday’s final round of regular season games for the remaining two semi-final slots.
Chapleton Maroons rebounded from their loss to Tru Juice on Saturday with a dominant win after leading 2-0 at half-time.
Marquis Reid scored the opener in the 36th minute before Dixon got his first of the game in the 39th minute.
Timar Dunn made it 3-0 in the 48th minute and Dixon then completed his hat-trick with goals in the 63rd and 71st minutes to take his tally to 10.
Faulkland FC, who had secured their semi-final spot in the previous round, went into the game against Treasure Beach in a relaxed mood and were made to pay against a team that had to win to keep its semi-final hopes alive.
Kadeem Stone scored twice for Treasure Beach, as Faulkland FC ended the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Gareth Dennis was sent off in the 51st minute for a rash tackle in his own penalty area.
Stone, who took his tally to seven goals, gave the visitors the lead after just 15 minutes when he beat Dennis at the near right post with a low hard shot into the far corner of the goal.
Dennis, who was shown a yellow card for handling the ball outside of the area, was lucky to stay on the field after upending a Treasure Beach Player late in the first half.
The goalkeeper had another rush of blood six minutes into the second half and this time he was sent off. Kevon Farquharson scored from the penalty spot to double Treasure Beach’s advantage.
With time running out, Stone got his second of the game when his shot from the edge of the area in the 88th minute rolled under the diving replacement goalkeeper Raion Bernard.
Falmouth United won their fifth-straight game as they edged Baptist Alliance 1-0 at York Oval for back-to-back shut outs. The result ended the home team’s semi-final hopes.
Patrick Shecklude scored the winner in the 70th minute to join Faulkland FC’s O’Brien Robinson on 11 goals.
Tru Juice FC stayed in the race for a semi-final spot after a big 6-1 win over Lime Hall Academy at Drax Hall. They were led by a brace from Howard Morris who pushed the visitors into a 2-0 lead with goals in the 21st and 26th minutes.
