JAAA settles on training facilities for World Champs
Organisers of the short pre-World Championships training camp for the Jamaican team are expecting all the athletes to show up as they fine-tune for the July 15-24 event at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Lincoln Eatmon, manager of the team, told the Jamaica Observer over the weekend they had “secured accommodations and training facilities for the camp” at locations within close proximity to Hayward Field.
He said two high schools, both secured by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), and Lane Community College, which is the official training facility for the championships and expected to be shared with other countries, will be used by the Jamaicans.
Eatmon said the Jamaicans will use Silk Field at a high school in Springfield, Eugene, and Winston Churchill High, both 10 minutes from Hayward Field.
“Even though they are high school facilities, they are world class,” he said. “They are fully equipped with weight rooms and all that we need. All we need to do is arrange transportation.”
The officials, he told the Observer, should arrive in Eugene on July 6 and the athletes are expected in by two days later, with the camp set to start July 9.
“Based on historical numbers we should have about 60 athletes and about 16-17 officials,” he pointed out.
