KC’s Kerr pleased after fast season opener in 100m
KINGSTON College (KC) sprinter Adrian Kerr was left purring after speeding to a personal best (PB) and his fastest season opener in the 100m at the OnDiRun/G C Foster Sprint Fest last Friday.
The Class 1 Boys athlete sped to 10.43s to automatically qualify for the event at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships which takes place in late March this year.
Kerr was quite pleased with his execution and was delighted with the start to his 2023 campaign.
“I came out here to execute the race properly and I did so — and a new PB as well. This is the first I am going this fast so early so I am grateful for this start. I am just trying to execute the races better and better and better.
“I am hoping to achieve great things, we just have to wait and see. It has been going very well and I hope it stays that way.”
The 10.43s run by Kerr is the fastest time run over the distance so far this season.
It was the second staging of the OnDiRun/G C Foster Sprint Fest meet and a few schools took advantage of the opportunities to have as many of their athletes as possible compete over the short sprint.
KC and St Jago High in particular had quite a number of athletes participating in the three classes, and not surprisingly dominated the top places in the three classes.
Kerr was the overall winner of the Class 1 Boys event in 10.43 (+0.8m/s), ahead of his KC teammates Nicholas Francis 10.65 (0.8m/s), and Yourie Lawrence 10.67 (+0.8m/s) who also ran personal best times last Friday.
In Class 2, Nicardo Clarke of KC was first in a personal best 10.91 (0.1m/s), Detarje Morgan of St Jago was second in 11.07 (0.1m/s), while Kaheim Carby of KC was third in 11.07s (+0.9m/s).
In Class 3, Ray-J Reece of St Jago was first in 11.28 (+2.1m/s), his teammate Kevon McKenzie was second in 11.39s (+1.4m/s), while Rayvon Black of Denbigh was third in 11.42 (+1.0m/s).
Wayne Long of OnDiRun Events Management regarded the meet as a great success.
“I think it was very successful. We had less participants than the last time around but I think that is because we had more track meets going on this year than we had last year, but we had a very good day of sprinting. This meet is all about performance so…as long as we can get them to do their best it’s always wonderful.”
He underscored the importance of staging such an event.
“It is very important because for most of the other meets, they limit the number of people that can participate at the meet. For this meet if you have 20 boys in Class 3, all 20 of them can come and run and get their time so this meet is very, very important for those teams that have a lot of athletes.”
The first edition of the OnDiRun 200m Sprint Fest was staged earlier this month.
