KSAFA boss Shaw thinks Gen Sec Wint needed a helping hand
Just as much as everyone else who has an opinion about Jamaica’s football, Wayne Shaw is not pleased with the state of affairs in the country and especially as far as administration of the sport is concerned.
Speaking in a recent interview with local media, the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) president promised that the issues surrounding Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) General Secretary Dalton Wint would be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
“Not only as the head of KSAFA, but as a director at the JFF, it is not pleasing what is happening right now. We will be having a meeting very soon to sort out that issue.
“We need to do a lot of things to fix what is happening at the JFF and we are going to sit down as a team and try to resolve all the problems. Jamaica’s football has to be first,” said Shaw.
He is of the opinion that it is time for there to be an assistant general secretary which will help to fix some of the challenges being experienced at the JFF.
“Some of the things that go wrong in the JFF can be avoided. One of the things that I am suggesting is that I think it is a lot of work for the general secretary, maybe we need to get an assistant general secretary,” Shaw mooted.
He referenced previous strong general secretaries that have served the JFF and even his own organisation which has led to much smoother run organisations.
“I know that we have had people like Mr (Raymond) Grant, Mr (Horace) Reid, Burchell Gibson, that they have done it by themselves, but we need to fix the general secretary part and then we will move on. In KSAFA, we always have some strong and good general secretaries and I think that’s why things run so smoothly in KSAFA,” Shaw noted.
He suggested that the JFF should take some of the blame for not stepping in sooner to help the beleaguered general secretary.
“I think that is one of the things we should have done since we were having problems with Mr Wint. We should have given him some help. I don’t think that Mr Wint was really helped along the way, and we have to take the blame for that.
“Maybe when he came in the handing over was not done properly, but we are going to try and fix that and try to get Jamaica’s football back on top,” Shaw promised.
On the back of demands by the Reggae Boyz, Wint has offered to resign from the post but no timeline has been given for departure.
