It was the Alex Marshall show at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday as Portmore United beat newcomers Treasure Beach 3-1 to get their first win of the Wray & Nephew Jamaica Premier League season.

The former St George’s College standout produced a stellar display in the first half which saw him scoring fine efforts in the 11th and the 24th minutes.

Chevaughn Walsh had an easy tap in first-half stoppage to put Portmore 3-0 up.

Romario Brown created history becoming the first Premier League goal scorer for Treasure Beach with his strike in the 47th, even though it was a consolation for the debutants.

Marshall, who was substituted early in the second half, was proud to be back on the pitch.

“It’s my first game of the season; I’ve just been working. Scoring two goals is always a good thing. I just have to build on that,” he said.

“We have a bunch of new players and we’re working together so it can only get better going forward,” he added.

Portmore Head Coach Philip Williams also had high praise for Marshall after the victory.

“I’m very impressed. He’s still injured and to be playing out there at the highest level in the land and producing although you’re injured, says much about the quality of the player,” he said.

The 25-year-old winger, whose last appearance for the Reggae Boyz was over a year ago, is hoping to be part of the senior men’s squad who will take on Guatemala on Saturday in the USA.

“It’s always my aim to be part of the national team because I feel that’s where most people watch and see you, so it’s always my aim to represent my country so if I get the call to do so, I’ll be willing,” he noted.

In the meantime, Williams is remaining patient as Portmore looks to gain momentum after getting their first win.

“It’s one game at a time. We’re just focusing on the next opponent and that’s how we going to have to take it. The team is in a rebuilding phase and we can’t look too far ahead, we just have to take it one step at a time,” he said.
