Thomas-Dodd, Williamson to open indoor season
Commonwealth Games medallists Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Kimberly Williamson will open their indoor season on Friday when they compete at the Puma American Track League Hawkeye Pro Classic at the Hawkeye Indoor track in Iowa.
Seven Jamaicans are down to compete in the two-day meet that will continue on Saturday with the Commonwealth Games medallist scheduled to compete on the opening day.
Thomas-Dodd, who claimed silver at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, in August, is to contest the women’s shot put along with six Americans including Rachel Fatherly and Kat Moody.
Williamson, who won the bronze medal in the high jump in Birmingham after making the finals at the World Athletics Championships a few weeks earlier in Eugene, Oregon, faces a field that includes Americans Vashti Cunningham and Jelena Rowe and Ghana’s Abigail Kwarteng.
Also Friday, former St Elizabeth Technical and University of Texas — El Paso runner Kimisha Chambers will compete in the women’s 600m.
On Saturday, four more Jamaicans will compete: Schillonie Calvert-Powell in the women’s 60m; Damion Thomas in the men’s 60m hurdles; and Sean Bailey and Karayme Bartley in the men’s 300m.
