ALPART — After a tense second-day battle, defending Wilco/Headley Cup champions, St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), in a gallant fightback, had William Knibb on the ropes at 94-9 in reply to a modest total of 151.

William Knibb took little time to wrap up STETHS’ innings on the second day’s play, as Lorenzo Ingram bagged three of the last four wickets to whittle out STETHS for 151. An addition of only seven runs to their overnight total of 144-6.

Ingram and Yohan Grant, who took an additional wicket on day two, both finished with three wickets apiece.

STETHS, disappointed at not reaching the targeted 200 runs, shot back by grabbing two early wickets, including the prized scalp of West Indies youth batsman, Ingram, who was trapped lbw for a duck by pacer, Jermaine Taylor.

William Knibb were then 2-2, as before Ingram’s departure opening bat, Nish Sterling, was run-out for a duck. Nepas Samuels, who is undefeated on 59, led a brief revival with a third-wicket stand of 36 with Granville Robinson, who became the first of four batsmen to be cut down by off-spinner, Wayne Simpson (4-19 from 27 overs — 16 maidens), at 38-3.

Aldane Samuels was bowled by Simpson, Denron Savage, LBW Taylor, quickly departed as STETHS pressed their opponents at 5-43.

Samuels and Garnet Earle threatened with a sixth-wicket stand of 35 runs, but when Earle went by the run-out route at 78, William Knibb wilted as Simpson snapped up two more scalps before the end of the day’s play.
