Popular fruit vendor killed in Montego Bay
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A well-known fruit vendor was shot dead in Montego Bay, St James, Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Kelvin Pyne, a resident of Orange in the parish.
Reports are that Pyne’s body was found about 11:30 pm on Miriam Way in the city. The body was seen lying face down with gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The St James police are investigating.
Pyne was one of three men who attempted to rescue individuals who were carried away by floodwaters on April 19, 2022.
Despite his efforts and those of his colleagues, a woman, Beryl Walters and her grandchild, Jennel, were washed away by raging flood waters in the resort city.
Jennel’s body was later recovered, but Walters’ has never been found.
