Teenager dies from stab wounds

KIRK Hylton, 16, of Kennedy Road in Clarendon, died in the Kingston Public Hospital Saturday from injuries he received when he was attacked by a group of men at Kennedy, Palmers Cross, Clarendon on Friday.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that at about 9:30 pm on Friday, Hylton was at home when a group of men barged into the premises and attacked and stabbed him several times. He was taken to the May Pen Hospital then transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died at about 9:00 am Saturday.

Initial investigations by the May Pen Police revealed that Hylton and a group of men had a quarrel in the Palmers Cross community last week and it was the same men who had attacked him.

Higgler shot and killed

A 30 year-old man was shot and killed by three armed men at York Avenue, Kingston 11 Saturday.

He has been identified as Kevin Marshall, otherwise called “Bounty”, a higgler of Olympic Way, Kingston 11.

The CCN reported that at about 3:20 pm, Marshall was at the home of friends when three gunmen entered the premises. The men opened fire hitting him in the head, neck and back. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Dallas shopkeeper shot dead

WRAL Sewell, a 36 year-old shopkeeper, was shot and killed by unknown assailant(s) at his shop at Dallas, Glendevon in St James Saturday night.

The CCN said that at about 10:00 pm, Sewell was in the process of locking up his establishment when explosions were heard. On investigation, he was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the left thigh. He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he died whilst undergoing treatment.

Would-be robber found dead in Bethel Town

A would-be robber was found dead Saturday in the aftermath of a foiled robbery attempt at a shop in Bethel Town Square, Westmoreland on Friday.

He has been identified as 34 year-old Eric Beckford, otherwise called “Jim” of Castle Mountain in the parish.

According to the police, at about 1:20 am on Friday, members of a police party responded to a report of a robbery at Bethel Town Square. On the arrival of the police, Beckford was reportedly seen breaking into a shop. He was accosted and he allegedly attacked one of the lawmen with a crowbar and was shot. He ran off into nearby bushes and his body was subsequently found behind the Bethel Town Post Office about 10:00 am Saturday. It was removed to the morgue for post-mortem examination.

Two men on drug charges

TWO men were arrested for beaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act in St James Saturday, after they reportedly passed out a number of cocaine pellets in hospital.

Charged with possession of, dealing in and taking steps to export cocaine are Marshall Smith, 24, of May Pen, Clarendon and 35 year-old Richard Ramsay, otherwise called “Professor Gungo”, of Catadupa District, Cambridge, St James.

The CCN’s St James liaison officer reported that at about 8:30 pm on Saturday, June 22, Smith checked in to board a flight to London. He was suspected to have ingested cocaine. He was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he reportedly excreted 40 cocaine pellets weighing just under 500 grams.

In the second incident at about 9:30 pm on Saturday, June 22, Ramsay reportedly checked in to board a flight to London. His action aroused the suspicion of the police and he too was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he later passed out 77 cocaine pellets weighing 500 grams.

They were subsequently charged and are booked to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

St James man arrested for counterfeit notes

A 36 year-old St James man, who reportedly tendered 18 $1,000 counterfeit notes in exchange for goods, was arrested by the police in Westmoreland Saturday.

Charged with possession of and uttering counterfeit noted is Henry Ricketts, craft vendor of Lilliput, St James.

The police said that at about 9:00 am, Ricketts went to an auto parts shop in Dunbar River, Westmoreland, where he reportedly tendered 24 $1,000 notes for auto parts, 18 of which were counterfeit.

He was consequently arrested and charged and is scheduled to appear in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
