Teacher crowned Miss Portland Festival Queen
It was a confident Ameika Ramsay, a 23-year-old teacher, who was crowned Miss Portland Festival Queen 2010 at the Port Antonio High School auditorium last Saturday night.
On her way to be crowned she copped the title ‘Best Performance’ she did the poem, Justis, walking through the audience and quickly moving to the stage with her placard, moving patrons with her cry for “Justis”.
Ramsay was also adjudged Most Congenial and Most Aware.
In response to the question how she would spend the million dollars prize money, she told the audience, “I would put a place for street children as I believe the children are the future. If they have formal education they can become a worthwhile citizen, make a positive impact on society and I will ensure that these children are guided on the right path and understand their role in society,” to loud applause.
An ecstatic Ramsay told the Observer that she was looking forward to representing her parish in the competition.
“I entered the completion confidently, because if you lack confidence you are twice defeated in the race of life. I knew I had the ability, I did my best and this is what I am reaping. Street children will be one of my projects and the other is providing for people in my Nunsuch area with culinary arts class so that they will be able to generate some income for their family. I look forward to rise like a true twentieth century woman, blaze the trail for my parish and Jamaica as I know I can do it,” she said with tears of joy.
Second place winner was Carlene Davis and copping the third place was Jodi-Ann Robinson who was judged Most Poised.
