AFTER 12 nights of music and fun in the glow of a million lights on the Christmas tree, the free LIME Christmas Village Pon Di Remix in Portmore St Catherine, is set to come to an end this Friday — Christmas Eve.

Popular show band Fab Five — renowned for party-like live performances blending their own hits such as Yu Safe, Ringroad Jam and Good Buddy with outstanding songs from other Jamaican singers and deejays — intends to bring the night and the Village to a climax with a special performance.

LIME Christmas Village Pon Di Remix opened on Monday, December 13, at Mega Roundabout, Portmore, with a tree lighting ceremony and performances by Bounty Killer and Baby Cham, among others.

Fab Five’s members said that “seeing we will be on the brink of Christmas Day, naturally we have to include some songs for the season. We are prepared, because remember we have two Christmas albums — Christmas in the Sun which we produced as Stage Crew, and A Jamaican Christmas Gift by ourselves. And anybody who has listened to The Ultimate Vintage Jamaican Party Mix, which comes in four parts, will know what our party performances are like. Grub Cooper can imitate just about any artiste and we are coming from 40 years ago when we started, right up to the present.”

According to LIME, at the opening of the Christmas Village on December 13, its chairman, Chris Dehring promised “12 nights of fun and lots of giveaways” and, coming up to the Christmas Eve closing appropriately dubbed ‘All Wrapped Up’, the Village has lived up to its promise.

LIME adds that variety has been the hallmark and the first week included a night dedicated to the smooth rulers including Robert Ffrench, Valton Cragie, Andy Livingston, Fire Lion and Natural Black and the Sting preview when Dancehall took centre stage.

The second week started on December 19, with the official LIME Pon Di Remix Concert and last night, anybody in the audience had a chance on the microphone during the Karaoke concert. Tonight has been dubbed Sounds of the Drum, with Jonkunoo and the Portmore Drum Corps, while laughter will be the order of the day tomorrow when Elva, Pretty Boy Floyd and Macho Kid stage a comedy showcase. On Thursday, the penultimate night, there will be a ‘Dance Off’ with Dancing Dynamites on stage and Flava Unit at the controls.

The LIME Christmas Village, with its many features including Candyland, Winter Wonderland and Kiddie’s Cawna, plus the entertainment, has been free to the public.

At the opening LIME’s managing director for Jamaica & Cayman, Garry Sinclair said, “Over the past few months all of us at LIME have come to know Portmore and its residents better than ever and we think that the LIME Christmas Village is just what this City needs to close off the year on a high.”

“I am pleased that in this holiday season, LIME can go beyond just expressing warm sentiments and tangibly demonstrate our commitment to this city and its residents with the setting up of our Christmas Village,” he added.
