Paul Hogan to sue Australia for failed tax probe
ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan will sue the Australian government for damaging his reputation during a failed criminal investigation into his tax dealings.
Fairfax Media on Thursday reported that Hogan’s lawyer said the actor could seek up to $80 million for his loss of earnings from the five-year probe.
Lawyer Andrew Robinson is quoted as saying: “His earning potential and reputation has been decimated in the international community and it has had that level of effect on his position.”
Robinson did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.
Investigators sought to prove suspicions that Hogan used offshore bank accounts to conceal earnings after his Crocodile Dundee trilogy became a hit in 1986. The investigation was dropped in November.
Eminem’s Recovery is 2010’s best-selling album
NEW YORK (AP) — Eminem has fully recovered: His latest CD is 2010’s best-selling album.
Recovery moved 3.4 million units since its June release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. No 2 on the list is Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which sold about 3.1 million records. Speak Now, Taylor Swift’s third CD, which was released in late October, is No 3, selling about 2.96 million copies.
While Eminem owns last year’s top CD, his Rihanna-assisted Love the Way You Lie is No 3 on the list of top songs. He was beat out by Katy Perry’s smash hit, California Gurls. The song features Snoop Dogg and moved 4.4 million tracks in 2010. Train’s Hey, Soul Sister is second with 4.3 million sold; the Top 5 includes Taio Cruz’s Dynamite and BoB’s Airplanes.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian investigators say Boney M singer Bobby Farrell died of heart disease.
Farrell, a 61-year-old native of Aruba, was found dead Dec. 30 in his hotel room in St. Petersburg, where the group had come for a performance.
Sergei Kaptionov, a spokesman for the St. Petersburg branch of Russia’s Investigative Committee, was quoted by Russian news agencies on Wednesday as saying the death was due to heart disease and was not a criminal matter.
Boney M was popular in the 1970s with hits including “Daddy Cool.”
