Mel Gibson booked and released on battery charge
LOS ANGELES (AP) — California authorities say Mel Gibson was booked and released on a misdemeanor battery charge as part of the criminal case involving his former girlfriend.
Jail records show the actor-director turned himself in Wednesday to the El Segundo Police Department.
He was fingerprinted and his mug shot was taken, a requirement of a plea deal that resulted in him being on probation for three years and attending a year of domestic violence counseling.
The 55-year-old Oscar winner was accused of striking his then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva during a January 2010 fight, but his no contest plea on Friday did not include an admission of guilt.
Gibson opted to turn himself in on the same night his film The Beaver premiered at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas.

£65,000 paid for Middleton’s see-through dress
LONDON — A revealing dress worn by Kate Middleton at a 2002 charity event attended by Prince William when they were university students has sold for 65,000 pounds ($104,860) at auction.
The black see-through dress with a blue trim was bought by an unidentified buyer Thursday in London. The auction price, which excludes a 20 percent buyers’ premium, was originally expected to reach 8,000 pounds.
Some commentators maintain that the dress played a role in sparking the royal romance that started shortly after the event.
It was initially intended to be worn as a skirt, but Middleton wore it as a short dress with black lingerie underneath.
