Absolutely Genus!
AS one half of the brains behind Genus Pharmacy in Portmore, Janet Genus has helped the operation grow from strength to strength. Along with her husband Adrian, a registered pharmacist who helped start the enterprise some 28 years ago, Janet said the initial start-up struggles have paid off big.
The pharmacy, with two locations in the municipality, has seen tremendous growth over the years under the Genus’ leadership. Known as Mrs G to her employees and customers and Aunty Jan to her nieces, nephews, god children and the children of family friends, Janet said the Lord has blessed her richly.
The fourth of six children, Genus is the mother of three children — Adrienne, Adrian Jr and Jordan. While her children were growing up she was a very active mom, making it a point to duty to attend all their matches, recitals, as well as parent teachers’ meetings.
“It was important for us that one of us be there at all times for our children,” she explained.
It was this kind of partnership that helped the business, and helped her to not only focus on the enterprise, but to touch many lives through philanthropy. Along with her husband, she supports and sponsors many local events, making Genus Pharmacy a household name.
A woman of God, Genus attends the Mona Open Bible Church and is a proud supporter of her alma mater, Mt Alvernia High school.
She is one of the mentors who provide guidance to Mt Alvernia High graduates at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
She said is grateful for her many blessings; her family the most important among them. Janet Genus believes self-actualisation is the reward of a well-lived life and every woman should aspire to this ideal.
