MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The Mandeville Tax Office reopened for business this morning after it was closed yesterday to facilitate grief counselling for staff at the location following the shooting death of a female worker Wednesday morning.

She has been identified as 34 year-old mother of two, Keniesha McKenzie Gayle of New Green in Mandeville. She was pronounced dead at hospital about 7:00am, according to reports.The police are reportedly interviewing her common-law husband.Police say a 37 year-old electrician and licensed firearm holder, who drove the victim to hospital then turned himself over to the Mandeville police, reported that McKenzie Gayle, with whom he has had a romantic relationship for several months, was shot accidentally.The electrician reportedly told police he was getting dressed for work at about 6:20am and was handling his firearm when it was accidentally triggered – a lone bullet hitting McKenzie Gayle in the upper body.“The investigation is in embryonic stages and we have made no determination, there are certain protocols that have to be followed,” chief of criminal investigations in Manchester, Deputy Superintendent Hempford Wade told OBSERVER ONLINE.Wade said while others were in the house at the time of the shooting, there is no evidence that anyone witnessed the incident. “All they can tell us is that they heard the explosion and the gentleman shouting for help,” he said.While reemphasising, that the police was in no position as yet to make a determination regarding McKenzie Gayle’s death, Wade called on licensed firearm holders to exercise great caution in handling weapons.Meanwhile, TAJ said it continues its ongoing counselling for staff to ensure the smooth restoration of normal operations at that location.
