Security Minister, JMA discuss impact of crime on the manufacturing sector
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Officials from the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) met with National Security Minister, Robert Montague, amidst growing concerns about the security of the Jamaican citizenry.
The five pillars are crime prevention through social development, situational prevention, swift and sure justice processes, rehabilitation and redemption and effective policing. He noted that a unified and holistic approach is critical to the fight against crime.
President of the JMA, Metry Seaga, advanced that private sector involvement in crime prevention strategies and policies is an important hallmark of the national security framework.
Seaga pledged the “unequivocal support and partnership” of the JMA and its membership in the initiatives and strategies to improve public safety and citizen security.
The dialogue resulted in new modalities being confirmed to monitor measure and communicate the initiatives posited by the ministry.
The model envisioned will be similar to the Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC) framework, with a chairperson to be selected after consultations.
The JMA has also committed to supporting the ministry through the provision of CCTV camera access, given the extensive geographic coverage of the manufacturing sector and the provision of other resources to boost the effectiveness and operations of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Systematic discourse will continue between the JMA and the National Security Ministry to continue targeted crime management strategies.
