Westmoreland Custos wants transport solution for school children
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Custos of Westmoreland, Canon Hartley Perrin says the parish is looking forward to the day when the government will be able to provide a transport solution for its citizens, especially school children.
“It is a shame and embarrassment to see the way how many of our children are transported to and from school. If it was not for our good God, who have so far prevented the many accidents on the road that would have involved our children and youth, many would be the tears and wailing of mothers across our parish and the fathers, where they can be found,” said Perrin.
Perrin argued that if children are treated with respect, they will not only learn to respect themselves, but others.
“If they are relegated and treated like goats and pigs, then it is little wonder that refer to each other as dogs,” said Perrin.
Perrin, who was addressing the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the administrative offices of a $14 million Transport Authority and the Inland Traffic Authority centre in Westmoreland on Wednesday also pointed to the need for intervention where illegal car and bike taxis are concerned.
“The proliferation of bike taxis and illegal robot operators only serve to highlight the absolute need for an intervention in this regard. A word of appeal to the honourable minister may be sufficient on this occasion,” said Perrin.
Minister of Transport and Mining Mike Henry was present at the ground breaking ceremony.
