Fire forces shutdown of electricity supply to St Ann communities tomorrow
ST ANN, Jamaica — The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is reporting that several customers in St Ann will lose power tomorrow, as the company carries out repairs on their substation in Cardiff Hall, Runaway Bay which caught fire on June 24.
The fire reportedly disrupted service in St Ann and caused JPS significant damage.
The affected areas were: Runaway Bay, Discovery Bay, Salem, Queens Highway, James Hill, Bohemia, Cave Valley, Nine Miles, Watt Town, Aenon Town and surrounding areas.
In a release today, JPS said that while all customers were restored by 11:00 am the next morning, the company has had to undertake ongoing repairs to the substation. JPS will reportedly carry out critical repairs at the location tomorrow.
As a result, the electricity providers said it will have to suspend electricity service for customers served by the Cardiff Hall substation, from 5am to 5pm.
The affected communities will include: Runaway Bay, Discovery Bay, Salem, Queens Highway, James Hill, Bohemia, Cave Valley, Cedar Valley, Nine Miles, Watt Town, Aenon Town, Llandovery, John’s Hall, Retirement, Retreat, Nairne Castle and surrounding areas.
JPS said that a final determination of the cause of the fire has not yet been made, as investigations are ongoing.
