Canadian arrested for cocaine found in suitcase at NMIA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Canadian man was yesterday arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act after cocaine weighing approximately 5.5 kilograms was reportedly found in a false compartment of his suitcase at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).
According to reports from the Narcotics Division the man checked in about 3:00 pm and was waiting to board a flight destined for Canada.
During security checks, a dog from the Police Canine Division drew attention to the suitcase, which resulted in the detection of the contraband.
After police investigated, they reportedly found a total of 14 packages containing the drug.
The passenger was subsequently arrested but his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
The police said the drug has an estimated street value of $6.6 million.
