ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Heavy afternoon rainfall again came to the fore in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Financial Group three-day Spalding Cup match just as hosts St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) were closing in on first-innings honours against Innswood High.

When match officials called off players this afternoon, in similar circumstances to Tuesday’s first day, Innswood were struggling on 123-8.

The two not out batsmen, Odane Pitter and Oneil Weir, are yet to get off the mark.

Scores: STETHS 165 (72.2 overs); Innswood 123-8 (38.2 overs)

Earlier, the hosts, resuming from their overnight score of 141-6, added only 24 runs before they were bowled out.

Odane Thompson, who began the day on 24, ended unbeaten on 45, while Andre McCarthy and Nigel Palmer had added respective scores of 35 and 30 from day one.

Innswood captain and slow left-arm orthodox bowler Jeavor Royal had figures of 6-50, while fellow left-arm finger spinner Kevin Peterson took 2-45.

Facing a modest total, Innswood looked good at 103-3 but a middle-order meltdown was their undoing before showers brought an end to the day’s play.

Number three batsman Carlos Brown batted solidly to top-score with 42, while opener Mark James and Royal made 24 and 22, respectively.

STETHS skipper and off-spinner Roberto Simpson was the main bowler, claiming 4-12.
