Calabar High School’s head coach, Corey Bennett has expressed uncertainty about his future at the institution after the expiration of his three-year contract.

Bennett guided the school to two third-place finishes in the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in 2023 and 2024 before securing a commendable second-place finish in this year’s concluded event.

“This year is the last year of my contract, so I have no idea what is going to happen next year,” Bennett admitted. “My contract of three years is up now.”

In addition to his role at Calabar, Bennett is also the head coach of Hydel High School’s girls’ team, who he has successfully guided to two ‘Champs’ titles in the past three years.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his tenure at Calabar, Bennett remains appreciative of his time with the school and the relationships he has built.

“Calabar is like family to me now and I am a Wolmerian, but I have to respect the length of the contract and probably they want to go in a different direction,” he said. “I have to respect them, so for me, either way, I am good.”

Reflecting on the bonds formed with the young athletes under his guidance, Bennett expressed pride in their potential and aspirations for their continued growth.

“I think we have some boys who have formed a serious bond. I think that there are some serious boys who can do great things for Jamaica in the future,” Bennett said.

As for the possibility of continuing his journey with Calabar, Bennett remains open but acknowledges that the final decision lies with the school’s management.

“I love Calabar, and I feel as if I should do it all over again, then yes, I will do it over again, but I leave that decision up to the management of Calabar,” he said.
