Dancehall veteran Capleton recently celebrated his 58th birthday in the United States.

The That Day Will Come deejay was serenaded with Happy Birthday by fans during his performance at Club Amazuru in New York on April 12.

“Well normally I spend my birthday in Jamaica with my mom, my family and friends at my home in Kingston and we have a private celebration with food and music. This year was my first time celebrating my birthday in the United States and I really enjoyed it especially when the audience sang Happy Birthday. The following night, the same thing happened at my birthday event, Fyah Birthday Bash which was held in Connecticut. That event was a Capleton Music Production,” Capleton told Observer Online on Wednesday.

Sharing the stage alongside Capleton at the Club Amazuru show, which was dubbed Fyah Fest, were Michael “Lickshot’ Palmer, Anthony B and Mikey Demus.

At the Fyah Birthday Bash, patrons came out to enjoy performances not only by the self-styled ‘Fire Man’, but also Ikaya, Anthony B and Louie Culture.

“The people enjoyed themselves and we have some promoters requesting the Connecticut show as a package to tour. Give thanks to the people who came out and supported the event,” said Capleton.

Capleton shared the highlight of his birthday weekend.

“Well, every birthday is something to celebrate and to know I’m still doing it a high level and to feel the love of the fans. It was good to see the power of reggae music because even though I performed on the 12th when Vybz Kartel sold out the Barclays Arena, we were still able to get a great turnout at Club Amazura which was also in New York,” Capleton explained.

Last year, the deejay made a return to the United Kingdom, after he was issued with a British visa.

“The first event I performed at was City Splash Festival which I was the headliner for. It was my first time in the UK in over 13 years. This year, I will return for a performance at Reggae Land Festival in Milton Keynes. I also have a show at Albert Hall in Manchester. It really feels good to reconnect with my fans in the UK after all these years,” said the deejay.

Capleton has dates confirmed in European countries including Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands and France. On August 30, he returns to New York at an event which is scheduled to be held at the Barclays Centre.

Asked what he was looking forward to most about performing in Europe, Capleton said “What I find in Europe is that the fans require me to perform some songs that might not be that popular in Jamaica. However, they are big with reggae fans in Europe, and I find that refreshing. My European fans know my songs word for word, and I can perform for up to two hours nonstop.”
