US-based content creator Mello Vibes plans back to school treat in Portland

PORTLAND, Jamaica — US-based content creator Mello Vibes is looking forward to his annual back-to-school giveaway which will be held at the Port Antonio Library in Portland on August 20.

The event, which typically attracts hundreds of school children, is slated to begin at 10 am.

Mello Vibes will be distributing several ‘vibes packs’ to school children as a way to mark the memory of his late mother, Elaine ‘Hope’ Thompson. She worked as a janitor at the Port Antonio Primary School and the Bank of Nova Scotia in Portland.

“This was my mother’s idea; she always talked about giving back to the community if she had it. But she didn’t get to do it because she passed away too soon, so I want to do it for her,” said Mello Vibes, a social media star whose real name is Melvin Grey.

“I remember when I was just 10 years old, she would take me and my twin brother to these jobs to help clean up so it would be much faster. The bank job was our favorite because we would find money while cleaning up. Through it all, even with her meagre salary, all she would talk about is giving back to her community, each one helping one,” Mello Vibes added.

The social media influencer’s mother passed away from complications associated with diabetes years ago. He continues to honour her wishes through this labour of love with his annual back to school treat. He is inviting all school children in Port Antonio and neighbouring areas to attend.

“Let’s gear up our future leaders with everything they need for a successful school year. What’s in the vibes pack? Book packs and school supplies, notebooks, pencils, folders, healthy snacks and water,” he added.

The event will be open to all students, and is being sponsored by Devine Choice Easter Bun.

The pastry company teamed up with Mello Vibes during the Easter season to spread the love and sweet treats across the Portland community by giving out traditional Easter bun and cheese care packages for families.

“The event will be held on a first come first serve basis. Let’s make going back to school something to celebrate. We’re going to have uplifting music and positive vibes, lots of smiles, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Come hold a mello vibes,” he said.

The US-based content creator has built up a successful online following with over 800,000 followers spread across all social media platforms. He is known for his reaction videos geared towards helping young talent get an audience all over the globe through his various platforms on Tik Tok, IG and YouTube channels.

The fast rising social media personality will also be staging his Mello Talent Show on his YouTube platform soon.

What is your AI actually costing you? — three ways it is priced now, why the bill creeps, and a two-line test for whether it is paying back
A year ago AI was one US$20 subscription on one credit card. It is now several subscriptions, a per-user licence inside the office suite, and a growing list of things billed by usage that nobody has forecast. Half of the finance leaders in a new US survey say their AI spend went over budget in the past year, and in a second survey only one in five could tie the spend to a result. Here is how the pricing works, where the money leaks, and a plain way to tell whether a tool has earned its renewal.
