KINGSTON, Jamaica–Stacey Knight, the daughter of veteran People’s National Party (PNP) politician and attorney KD Knight, says it’s time to “park the old truck” in St Andrew North Eastern and select new leadership in the constituency.

The constituency has been represented since 1997 in Parliament by Justice Minister, the Jamaica Labour Party’s Delroy Chuck.

Speaking at the PNP’s Kingston and St Andrew parish meeting on Saturday night, Stacey Knight declared that change is coming to St Andrew North Eastern.

“Comrades, I am ready to be your next Member of Parliament… I am here to tell you that when I become your Member of Parliament it is going to be right with Knight!” she stated.

An attorney by profession, Knight said she has lived in the constituency all her life, making the decision not to represent a safe seat but the area where she originated.

“Comrades I have been walking, I have been talking, I have been listening, and what I hear from the people from St Andrew North East(ern) is that they are ready for change,” she said.

“Round a St Andrew North East where I live dem have a man weh deh deh fi 28 years, and we say… we ago get rid a dah man deh, we ago park the old truck! A time fi we park the old truck! Comrades a time fi a new type of representation,” said Knight.

She told the thousands of PNP supporters crammed into Cross Road that voting is not just a transaction, but rather about transformation.

“It’s not just about giving black tanks to labourites, it’s about unblocked pipes for every constituent; all a wi a pay we water bill and we can’t get water. Being a good Member of Parliament is not about wrapping up a T-shirt with money, it’s about giving people opportunity so that them can earn their own money,” Knight said.

She also touted the PNP’s ‘Jamaica Love’ manifesto, declaring that it will bring, among other things, quality education to every child, including those in St Andrew North Eastern.
