Patmore confident of ending Mama D’s dominance
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Businessman Paul Patmore, the People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for Trelawny Southern in the September 3 general election, is confident his nomination signals the beginning of the end of the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Marisa ‘Mama D’ Dalrymple-Philibert’s almost two-decade grip on the seat.
Dalrymple-Philibert, who has won five terms, was nominated ahead of Patmore at the Electoral Office of Jamaica’s Trelawny Southern Returning Office in Albert Town.
Patmore, a former independent councillor for Lorimers Division, described his nomination as the most definitive ever in the constituency.
“Right now we have the mother of all nominations happening today in South Trelawny. So we’re gonna leave Albert Town, and we’re gonna head back to our base in Lowe River, at the Paul Patmore Water Square, where we’ll be celebrating victory and the end of Marisa Dalrymple until six o’clock this evening,” Patmore said.
“This is the celebration. It’s the beginning of the end of Marisa Dalrymple in South Trelawny after 20 years,” he added.
He noted, however, that once the nomination day festivities are over, campaigning will resume in earnest.
“We have much more campaigning to do. I will be touching base with the people, community by community, person by person, face to face now. We have around another two weeks to go, and we’ll be touching base with my people, just to build up the confidence and make them know that Paul Patmore is here to serve every citizen of South Trelawny, whether you’re PNP or JLP,” Patmore stated.
“So I’m calling on all labourites, come out and support Paul Patmore, because Paul Patmore will be here to support every citizen so you have no fear, you will not be treated like how Marisa Dalrymple had treated the PNP supporters for the past 20 years.”
