WATCH: Duncan Sutherland pledges transformation in St Andrew Eastern
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Andrew Eastern, Patricia Duncan Sutherland, has pledged to transform communities in the constituency if elected as Member of Parliament, promising improved business opportunities, land titles, housing and community development.
Speaking during a constituency tour on Monday, Duncan Sutherland told supporters she was committed to building with the people.
“We are going to make everybody live up together. Because we are going to make business, and we are going to earn money, and we are going to get our titles, and we are going to remove the zinc fence, and we are going to build our dream together and live our dream together.” she said.
“I am looking forward to serving you as your next Member of Parliament,” continued Duncan Sutherland.
Opposition Leader Mark Golding, who accompanied Duncan Sutherland on the tour, urged constituents to take the upcoming general election seriously, reminding them of the PNP’s contributions to national development.
“The People’s National Party has built all of the institutions that have really helped to make life easy and better for the people of Jamaica,” Golding told attendees.
He cited free education, housing, land reform and the National Health Fund as examples of policies introduced under previous PNP administrations.
Golding further criticised the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), accusing them of failing to deliver in key areas.
“We have a government here that is coming up to 10 years. They have not built one school in Jamaica in 10 years. When they check all the metrics, performance coming out of schools is lower now than it was when they came to office. The economy is stagnant and not growing,” he said.
Golding pledged that a PNP government would reintroduce policies and programmes aimed at improving quality of life for Jamaicans.
“My comrades and friends, it is a responsibility, a sacred obligation that I intend to use my utmost capacity, my talents, my wisdom, my faith in God to deliver for you,” Golding said, calling on voters to support Duncan Sutherland on election day.
