KINGSTON, Jamaica — Physical challenges were no bother for 55-year-old Karen and 59-year-old Lesroy Coke, who turned out to vote at Holy Family Primary School on Law Street in Kingston Central on Wednesday morning.

Karen, who said she did not want to speak on camera, told the Jamaica Observer that she had to come out to cast her ballot.

In the meantime, Coke, who was the community barber in South Side before he suffered a stroke, said he had to do his part to ensure that the country’s progress under the Jamaica Labour Party continues.

According to Coke, he could not let his disability prevent him from travelling to the polling station to cast his ballot.

Kingston Central is considered a battleground constituency, with the incumbent Donovan Williams of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) staving off a strong challenge from the People’s National Party’s Steve McGregor.

Williams defeated the PNP’s Imani Duncan Pryce in the 2000 General Election, securing 4,623 votes to her 4,147 votes, to take the seat by 476 votes.
