KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP) is reassuring voters that their right to vote remains fully protected, despite the Electoral Office of Jamaica’s (EOJ) decision to discontinue the use of the Electronic Voter Identification and Ballot Issuing System (EVIS) in four constituencies.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party urged all Jamaicans—especially its supporters—not to be discouraged or confused by the change. It encouraged voters to instead follow the standard Election Day voting procedures.

“The traditional manual voting process will be in full effect and continues to be a safe, reliable and valid method for casting your ballot,” the PNP said.

The four constituencies affected are Kingston Central, St Andrew Eastern, St Andrew West Central and St Andrew South Eastern.

While the EOJ has cited operational reasons for the move, the PNP expressed concern about what it described as a lack of timely public communication and detailed explanation for such a significant change, particularly in areas where the EVIS has been consistently used in elections for several years.

“We are in dialogue with the EOJ and will continue to advocate for clarity, transparency and strong public education. While we seek more detailed reasons for the change in these constituencies, we are satisfied that the manual system remains a safe and dependable method of voting,” the PNP said, while noting that its teams in the affected areas will be on the ground to provide information and assistance to ensure a smooth transition.
