Suspect in murder of two cops surrenders to police
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The main suspect in Thursday evening’s fatal shooting of two policemen along Waltham Park Road in St Andrew has surrendered to the police.
The suspect, Marcarius “Macky” Monroe of Ricketts Crescent in Kingston 13, turned himself in to officers at the Hunts Bay Police Station on Friday.
Monroe is believed to be a prime suspect in the double murder of Constables Charles Stewart and Jemarey Gordon, who were shot and killed along 83 Lane, Waltham Park Road.
Speaking on the development Friday afternoon, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Michael Phipps confirmed that Monroe reported to the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).
“At about 4:00 pm, a main suspect in the double murder of Constables Gordon and Stewart actually turned himself in to the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigations Branch. He is now being interviewed and further work is being done around him,” Phipps said.
Despite this breakthrough, the lawman said the investigation remains active and is urging two other persons of interest to come forward immediately.
A man who goes by the alias “Squidly” and Junior Brown, otherwise called “Junior” are being asked to surrender to the police no later than 6:00 pm Friday.
The police also issued a strong warning to members of the public who may be assisting in hiding the men.
“We want to further urge our responsible citizenry not to harbour these men who are wanted, because this might amount to a criminal offence for which they can be prosecuted,” Phipps said.
Investigators are encouraging anyone with information on the whereabouts of the persons of interest to contact the police immediately.
