IMD 2025: Celebrating everyday heroes
INTERNATIONAL Men’s Day (IMD) will be celebrated this Wednesday, November 19, and this is an opportunity to celebrate the men in our lives who strengthen, support and inspire us every day. From fathers and brothers to partners, sons, colleagues and friends, on IMD, we honour their kindness, their courage, and the quiet ways they make our lives brighter.
It’s a moment to say thank you to the men who show up, who care deeply, and who make a lasting difference just by being who they are.
Here are some ways to celebrate the men in your lives this IMD.
Be appreciative
Write or tell them specific things you admire, like how they show care, support or reliability. Men rarely hear thoughtful praise from women, and it means more to them than they often admit.
Celebrate their contributions to the family
Honour the men who show up for their children; support their extended family members; maintain the home; and offer emotional or practical help, especially to others. Acknowledge these moments openly and gratefully.
Spend quality time doing what they love
Join them in something they enjoy, like watching a football game, working on the car together, playing video games, fixing something, or exploring a hobby. Shared time equals shared appreciation.
Surprise them with something thoughtful
Small gestures go a long way. This can include treating them to their favourite meal, a day at the male service salon, or a new set of car tyres. It shows you are thinking of their needs and wants.
Celebrate their role as mentors & protectors
Whether they guide younger siblings, help friends, or support co-workers, highlight how important their leadership and steadiness are.
Share their stories
Now is the time to share them on your social media, with short tributes about the men who shaped you, like your dad’s wisdom, your brother’s loyalty, your partner’s patience, or your friend’s honesty. It inspires other women to reflect on their heroes too.
Support their dreams & challenges
Encourage them as they pursue goals or face struggles. Men often hide their stress, so letting them know you’re on their side is a powerful gift.
Give them a well-deserved break
Take over a task they usually handle, like dropping the kids to school. Give them a quiet afternoon, or pamper them with rest, peace and quiet. Acknowledging how much they do is a form of celebration.
Say it out loud: “you make my life better”
Men rarely receive open emotional affirmation. Hearing that they matter and that their presence improves someone’s life is deeply uplifting.
