Yesterday Best of the 90s leverages support for hurricane victims

...24th edition rescheduled for Boxing Day showcase

With more than two decades on the entertainment circuit, Yesterday Best of the 90s has become a staple on the local events calendar. In fact, the nostalgic event was all set to mark its 24th anniversary on November 1 when celebrations had to be put on hold as the country suffered major setbacks due to the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The devastation in the west prompted an immediate call to action from promoter Gyete Ghartey, who, alongside several dedicated partners and loyal party patrons, reallocated resources to help those affected.

“We transformed our base at Mas Camp into a collection centre and urged our patrons to drop in and donate relief items,” said Ghartey. “Jamaica has been supporting Yesterdays for 24 years, and so it was only natural that we reciprocated that when they need us the most. We made monetary donations as well as we were able to collect items to pack and deliver over 500 care packages.”

The promoter said it was heart-warming to witness the outpouring of love and support, which proved once more that Jamaicans have some of the biggest hearts.

“Jamaica has always been known for the kindness of its people, but this initiative and this whole period of giveback have proven that once more. The way people turned up bearing all sorts of goodies was really touching. We were able to deliver packages across St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and Clarendon, and we are forever grateful.”

Now set for December 26, the nostalgic 90s party is set to deliver timeless music and unmatched vibes during the peak of the vibrant Christmas season. The event is expected to take patrons on the usual joyride back in time, with Ghartey stating his team will be pulling out all the stops to ensure the event delivers nothing but world-class entertainment.

“This staging will be one for the books as we’re celebrating 24 years. Looking back now, we did not know it would have lasted so long, and over the years we have tried our sincere best to please our patrons by putting them first and getting their feedback,” he told the
Jamaica Observer. “Our patrons are the real reason why we’ve achieved two decades on the entertainment scene, and so it will be a non-stop celebration before and during the event.”

The Yesterday team and voluteers say they were overwhelmed at the outpouring of love and support as they hosted their donation drive at Mas Camp late last month.Contributed
