Fateful Reunion

Fateful Reunion

Not all love stories start with a spark; some are written patiently over time. Yet for Shanna-Kaye Bennett and Michael Brown, destiny required a special twist of serendipity, before realising that their true love, was standing in front of them all along.

How They Met

Their story began as schoolmates at Camperdown High. Shanna-Kaye remembers Michael as an outgoing athlete with a vibrant personality, a stark contrast to her more reserved nature. However, their real adventure wouldn’t begin until May 2014, when they were reacquainted via a mutual friend at Excelsior Community College.

“On my way to class, I got a call from an unknown number and to my surprise, it was Robert! Apparently, he had tricked our mutual friend into giving him my number. We talked for a while, and from that day on, his calls came at least once per day,” Shanna-Kaye told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

Their bond deepened through study sessions and regular, meaningful talks. Eventually, Michael disclosed a secret — he’d carried a crush on Shanna-Kaye since high school. This revelation was the moment Shanna-Kaye saw him differently, realising their friendship was destined for more.

“When we reconnected in college, his eyes felt different, my feelings felt different, and our conversations had this energy, like I was rediscovering a part of him I never paid attention to back in high school,” Shanna-Kaye said. “The way he listened, the way he showed up for me, the way he made me laugh even on stressful days. One day it just hit me: This is my person,” she said.

The Proposal

Their relationship started in June 2014, leading to a decade-long partnership that included welcoming their son, Mickel. The ultimate milestone arrived on June 29, 2024, when Michael proposed to Shanna-Kaye.

“Mickel’s godmother flew down for his kindergarten and insisted on a girls’ night out at the ROK Hotel. When we got there, the ROK team was oddly specific about where they wanted me to sit. I thought it was weird but I went along with it. While we were dining, I heard a song I listened to on repeat almost every day, Thank You by MeiPia. I was intrigued as it is not a popular tune. I turned and saw Michael walking towards me! I was in shock as this was a girls’ night out and I had left him at home. He got down on one knee and popped the question. Of course I said yes!”

The Wedding

The wedding day arrived on October 5, 2025 at Boone Hall Oasis complete with threatening dark clouds which thankfully dissipated. Party Planet 876 expertly handled the décor.

Shanna-Kaye, radiant in an off-white mermaid dress from Bliss Bridal, was escorted up the aisle by her father, Lyndon Bennett, to Ruelle’s I Get to Love You. Michael, waiting for her at the altar, was dressed sharply in a green tuxedo. The ceremony was officiated by Lester Pearson.

Following dinner, Michael and Shanna-Kaye enjoyed heartfelt toasts from their loved ones. Their most memorable memory came from their son, Mickel, whose moving toast elicited both laughter and tears.

“Congratulations to my parents. Daddy, please take care of my mommy, and Mommy, continue to love Daddy on tough days,” Mickel said. “May your love continue to grow stronger forever and ever!”

After cutting their wedding cake by Annie Taylor, the newly-weds opened the dance floor to Lukas Graham’s Love Someone.

Shanna-Kaye and Michael honeymooned at Riu Hotel Palace Aquarelle in Trelawny.
